From its beginning, the United Methodist Women has focused on ministries with women, children and youth. The New Horizons unit of the United Methodist Women (UMW) is very active & supports many ministries that fulfills this focus. Examples of ministries the UMW supports are:
- Avail Domestic Abuse Shelter
- Bead for Life – benefits Ugandan women & their families
- Wittenberg Area Food Pantry
- No More Malaria
- Salvation Army
- American Bible Society
- Operation Backpack (school supplies distribution for the needy)
The purpose of the UMW is :
- To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ.
- To develop a creative supportive fellowship
- To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Monthly meetings are normally held on the 1st Saturday of each month at 12:00 Noon. They enjoy a light lunch together, followed by a business meeting & then a wonderful bible study.
